free email news Motorcycle central Tokyo bike shop happy snaps April 21, 2026, by Guy 'Guido' Allen Join us for a mini tour of some Tokyo motorcycle shops ![]() The gents above are the beating hearts of the UPC Ride On shop in the once thriving bike precinct of Ueno, Tokyo, which is a long-term Arai Helmets expert fitting station. ![]() And below are a couple of pics from the Rabee riding gear and accessory
shop, also a local institution. More to come on
Tokyo motorcycle shops... ![]() ![]() ![]() Above and below is Come Come, which from the outside looks like the proverbial hole in the wall. Inside there are two floors packed with gear. ![]()
Above and the next
two shots below is SCS
Motorcycle. It does a mix of new and used
bikes, and runs a workshop pretty much in
the showroom. It also seems to have captured
the hearts of the Vintage Japanese
Motorcycle Club of Finland. There is another SCS
to the west of the city, which is a
much larger place describing itself as a
'department store'. ![]() ![]() Sadly the Ueno
district is a shadow of its former self, with
about eight shops remaining. A decade ago, it was
thought to have more like 100. See this
2016 piece by Motorcycle Cruiser magazine
in the USA. Try this
2026 Google Maps link for a walking tour of the
Ueno district.
About a 20 minute
walk away is Thunder
Motorcycles, located on a substantial
tourist street. It's as much a coffee shop as it
is a motorcycle outlet and one of a chain of 34
stores. The coffee, by the way, is very good. ![]()
Next up, we hopped
across to the Red Baron
Katsushika store, a mid-sized dealership and
part of a nationwide chain. ![]() ![]() It has loads of stock on hand, plus a workshop with dyno.
The prices for new and late-model machines seemed broadly
in line with what you would find in Australia. The camera-shy salesman we spoke with is a Kawasaki nut,
so I showed him a pic of the family ZX-12R,
to which he responded his father has one, too. How to
suddenly feel old... ![]() See our other recent Japan previews: *** ------------------------------------------------- Produced by AllMoto abn 61 400 694 722 |
