Yamaha DS7

June 23, 2026, by Guy 'Guido' Allen

It really wasn't meant to end this way. Muggins and Ms M were on a road trip and landed in beautiful downtown Dubbo (NSW, Australia) to visit young Dave and Margaret Readford of Obsolete Motorcycle Parts.

The idea was to drop in for a cuppa, collect the NOS Honda Blackbird mufflers we had been offered, see the Readford enterprise and leave. One thing lead to another.

Anyway, there was the 1970 Yamaha DS7 250 two-stroke twin sitting in the shed, looking for a new home. And now we own it, with a rider's manual!

It's a runner and there is a need for new paint and a seat cover.

There is going to be a delay before we collect it and get to work. Watch this space...

As for the Readfords, assorted family and crew were Yamaha dealers from 1967 through to 2018 when the franchise was eventually sold. Three generations of the family worked there.

Since then Dave and Margaret have set up Obsolete Motorcycle Parts and acquired an astonishing volume of mostly NOS parts covering (mostly) Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki.

See the Yamaha DS7 stats and period road test at Motorcycle Specs.
