(Guy 'Guido' Allen, July 20, 2025)

Honda has announced it will soon release a retro version of its highly-regarded CB1000 Hornet platform, tagged the CB1000F SE. Launch is expected to happen in the lead-up to the Suzuka 8 Hour on August 1.

At least two versions are known to exist: the naked at top and the bikini faired version teased in profile above.

The recently-released Hornet has received positive reviews – see the AMCN test of the SP version.

The colour scheme harks back to 1981, when factory rider Freddie Spencer placed second in the AMA Superbike Championship in the USA, behind Eddie Lawson.

Of course the twin-cam engine series of that era grew up to 1100, with the CB900F Bol d'Or turning out to be a very popular option. See the Old Bike magazine story on this model.

The pick of Honda's previous big 1980s-style retro bikes was arguably the CB1300. See the 2006 review of the CB1300S at bikesales.
