Big numbers for MV project bikes, December 7 Donington Auctions in Australia yesterday sold four 1970s MV Agustas in varying states of repair, all of which went for solid prices. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the big numbers paid for the non-runners. The only complete and running machine of the set was this 750 America (above), which went for a more-or-less predictable Au$105,000 (US$78,000, GB£58,000). That may turn out to be the best value of the group, as the remaining three all needed substantial work. First up for the DIY fan was this 1975 750 S, with what was believed to be all of the bits to make it whole again. The engine had been broken down for a rebuild, which hasn't been completed. It went for a sobering Au$63,000 (US$47,000, GB£35,000). By far the biggest job was this 1972 750 project, based on a GT. It included the rolling chassis and a set of engine cases without internals. The size of the task ahead didn't faze at least a couple of bidders, who took the sale price to Au$45,000 (US$33,500, GB£25,000). Last and far from least in the DIY section was this Magni MV Agusta, circa 1975. It has the majority of the components required to complete the build, including the chain-drive conversion, and went for a staggering Au$68,000 (US$50,500, GB£38,000). ------------------------------------------------- Produced by AllMoto abn 61 400 694 722 |
