finale Sunday shed wrap May 25, 2025, by Guy 'Guido' Allen ![]() One of the things we do
a few afternoons a week is circulate through several
of the bikes at home by taking them for a quick gallop
to keep them exercised and healthy. Today's selection was the 1979
Yamaha SR500, which started second kick after a
six-week layoff. It was very seventies, but light and
delightful as ever. Then there was the gentle
and cruisy 1975 BMW R75/6, which so far has been
unbelievably stress-free. We recently (finally!)
swapped out the nicely-preserved 20-something-year-old
rubber it came with for new Bridgestones, which
probably saved my life today as I got cut off in
traffic and pretty well hit max braking capacity. Next was the 2016
Triumph Thruxton 1200 R. It has
recently undergone a mid-strength service and some
recalls. This bike may not have been an enduring
commercial success, but is a thorough joy to ride. Last to get away was the 1975
Honda Gold Wing (pictured), which we bought about
a year ago. We paid a little over the odds for
this bike and it turned out to be a good decision.
That was confirmed by a great
run from Brisbane to Melbourne via the coast
with it, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
model. However we've yet to do a proper
video and feature wrap of the bike itself. That's
now high on the list of priorities. Oh, and today we got a call from
young Mr Pilgrim at Union Jack Motorcycles. While
I was out enjoying sun and motorcycles, he had
diligently changed the tyres on the rims from my 1952
Vincent Touring Rapide and had some news to
share: that is, the tyres were even older than the
40 years I thought possible. More to come... ------------------------------------------------- Produced by AllMoto abn 61 400 694 722 |
