Another CBX six finds its way into
the shed (Guy 'Guido' Allen, January 2025) We recently sold a Honda
CBX1000B at auction and got pretty good money for it.
The bike was running perfectly, however the cosmetics
were acceptable rather than good. Seller's remorse soon
set in. So we went on the hunt
for a replacement, hopefully with the combination of
good mechanicals and cosmetics. What we came up with
was a 1982 CBX1000C, namely the last of the series and
built in the USA. Around 1750 were made, making them
the most rare of the breed. ![]() Soon after getting it home I was on the tools chasing a misfire. While it ran well when I first viewed it a couple of weeks ago, it had since developed a stumble and clearly wasn't happy. Start-up was crotchety while cylinder number two simply wasn't playing. As with a lot of bikes this age that spend most of their time sitting idle, your first suspect is fuel even if it has recently been topped up with fresh stuff. We drained the tank, put in 95 RON bought from a BP outlet that day and cleaned all six spark plugs – a straight-forward but laborious task.
And the end result? We were rewarded with a very happy machine enjoying a silky engine idle once it was up to temperature. Perfect. We'll bring you more once we register it and go out for a
play. *** ![]() ------------------------------------------------- Produced by AllMoto abn 61 400 694 722 |
