Star bikes for auction, May 6 2021
A 1967 'side-pipe' CZ250 used by Paul Newman in the movie Sometimes a Great Notion has popped up for auction in the USA. Handled by Heritage Auctions, it's estimated at Au$39-65,000 (US$30-50,000, GB£22-36,000). If you're bidding, remember to allow for the breath-taking 25 per cent buyer premium. The bike was previously auctioned by Bonhams in 2018, though no result is recorded. Also featured is a 1949 Triumph TR5 Trophy ridden by Henry Winkler in the TV series Happy Days. That carries an estimate of Au$103-155,000 (US$80-120,000, GB£58-86,000) Marginally less awe-inspiring is the estimate on a 1968 Bultaco Pursang 250, ridden by Peter Fonda in the legendary flick Easy Rider at Au$65-90,000 (US$50-70,000, GB£36-50,000)
